The Great Port of Jamaica with Thomas J. Campanella

Join us for our last virtual Breakfast Talk of the year!

Sometimes the stories of failed projects are more interesting than the ones that succeed.  Thomas J. Campanella’s book, Brooklyn: The Once and Future City, is filled with stories about dreams for Brooklyn—some of which came to fruition and many which did not.  Campanella’s talk will focus on one of those that failed—the creation of a world-class port in Jamaica Bay.

Thomas J. Campanella is an associate professor of urban studies and city planning at Cornell University and historian-in-residence of the New York City Parks Department. He divides his time between Ithaca and the Marine Park neighborhood in Brooklyn near Jamaica Bay.
