Meet the Speakers:
Summer completed her Master’s of Science in Sustainable Environmental Systems at Pratt Institute and started her position as the Energy Democracy Coordinator at UPROSE. In this role, Summer leads many Energy Democracy campaigns from developing Sunset Park Solar- NY’s first community solar cooperative, fighting peaker power plants with the PEAK Coalition, and implementing a local Just Transition through UPROSE’s community-led comprehensive waterfront plan called the Green Resilient Industrial District (GRID) plan. Summer works with many partners to support policies and funding that will make renewable energy affordable, accessible, and community-owned for environmental justice communities like Sunset Park.
Alba is the Community Engagement Manager at Equinor Wind US, focused in stakeholder engagement for the Empire Wind project in New York, specifically within the Brooklyn community. Alba’s work spans from educating and engaging communities on Equinor’s offshore wind developments, to working with various institutions such as environmental, academic, and governmental; ensuring that as an organization, projects remain within the confines of responsible development. Alba joined Equinor in March 2021 from Boys and Girls Clubs of America, where she spent close to five years working in collaboration with external partners to execute youth programs for underserved communities.
